Cops are in a high speed police chase with a dangerous driver. The police pursuit ends in a major collision involving multiple vehicles. Officers tend to the scene and the victims of the incident. Elsewhere, cops conduct a traffic stop on an individual they believe is a suspect in a recent home invasion robbery. Meanwhile, at a restaurant two families are reeling from a fight and officers try to work out who threw the first punch.
Real-life officers are followed by a camera crew, cinéma-vérité style, in a gritty up-close look at police work and the consequences of crime. It spawned a number of police-reality imitators.
