Should Marijuana be Legalized in Nepal?
Once known as the Hash Kingdom and famous for its freak streets that legally and openly housed “coffee shops” that sold hashish, Nepal might have a lot to lose from not participating in this booming sector.
Like the Netherlands, which pulls in hundreds and thousands of “cannabis tourists every year” and has a gross revenue of millions from cannabis sales alone. In the USA, Nearly a dozen states combined to collect $3 billion in tax revenue from legal recreational marijuana sales in 2021. Likewise, Uruguay began to export marijuana in 2019 and doubled exports in 2020, to $7.3 million. Uruguay-based Former Life Sciences forecasts that 80 countries could legalize medical marijuana in the near future, with an expected market value of $100 billion over the next decade.
Keeping these in mind, Nepal could definitely capitalize on this. Nepal could promote Cannabis tourism and regulate its sale of it. The govt can impose strict regulations to obtain licenses and could designate areas for tourists.
Like many countries, Nepal could put a limit on the sale of Marijuana and put strict regulations in place.
